Ishtar’s Story
Ishtar
Okay, let’s start with the name…Ishtar, we can agree, it’s an unusual name. Ishtar means a Babylonian and Assyrian goddess of love and war whose name and functions correspond to those of the Phoenician goddess Astarte.
My daughter actually found Ishtar on her way to work one morning, she was dodging traffic at the intersection of Ferguson and Peavy Roads; running back and forth at the nearby 7-Eleven on the corner clearly in distress. She cautiously allowed my daughter to give her some cat food she had in her car. Ishie, as we call her now, was so scared and nervous but clearly longing for safety and a little tender, loving care. My daughter quickly called me for back-up and sat with her until I got there. We gently coaxed her into my car and drove her directly to Buckner Terrace Animal Clinic for medical care with the awesome Dr. Jimmy Norris, our long-time friend and Veterinarian.
This story has a very happy ending. As it turns out my daughter’s father was looking to adopt another rescue dog and was just waiting for one to come into his life again. It honestly was the most unbelievable meeting I have ever witnessed. It was love at first sight, Ishtar acted as though she had known him for years immediately. He adopted her on the spot.
